MT. VERNON, Iowa – The Illinois College women's soccer squad picked up a key Midwest Conference victory, beating Cornell, 3-1, on Thursday at the Cornell Soccer Stadium.
IC is now 10-5-3 overall and 2-3-2 in conference play, while Cornell dropped to 2-12-1 and 1-5-1. The victory keeps IC alive for a berth in the 2024 Midwest Conference Tournament.

The Lady Blues never trailed and posted the only goal of the opening half when
Abby Love put IC on the board with a goal at the 40:26 mark.
IC put the game away early in the second half with two rapid fire goals. Just over eight minutes into the period,
Haley Sommer scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season off an assists from
Olivia Ralston at 48:52.Â
Nearly seven minutes after Sommer scored,
Aliza Rodriguez found the net at 54:42, again off a feed from Ralston to make it 3-0.
The Rams picked up a goal at the 66:33 mark but the Lady Blues shut them out the rest of the way to earn the win.
IC was dominant on the offensive end, out-shooting the Rams 22-4. Sommer led the charge with five shots, Love and
Abbi Renwick each had four, and Ralston had three.
Sophia Kriegesmann went the distance in goal, recording three saves.
Blue Notes
The 10 wins this season mark the second time in program history that an IC squad has posted a double-figure win total; the 2014 squad holds the school record with 11 wins.

The Lady Blues will wrap up the regular season on Saturday when they host Beloit with a berth in the Midwest Conference Tournament on the line during Senior Day. The match is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
