Women’s Soccer Falls at League Leading Lawrence

APPLETON, Wis.  –  Midwest Conference leader Lawrence held off Illinois College, 2-1, in a women's soccer match on Saturday at Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.

The defeat dropped IC to 9-4-3 overall and 1-2-2 in conference play. Lawrence improved to 9-4-2 and 4-0-1.

The Vikings opened the scoring midway through the opening half when Ference Law scored at the 27:15 mark. Lawrence held that lead through the rest of the half and into the second before the Lady Blues tied it up when Haley Sommer scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season.

Lawrence got the eventual game-winner at the 60:08 mark when Ava Elder scored on a penalty kick.

The Vikings out-shot IC, 22-7. The Lady Blues got four shots from Sommer and one each from Holly Morehart, Olivia Ralston, and Aliza Rodriguez.

Sophia Kriegesmann had 12 saves in goal.

The Lady Blues will be back in Jacksonville next Saturday for Homecoming when they welcome Lake Forest to England Stadium. Match time is 7:00 p.m.
