Lady Blues Post First Conference Victory

MONMOUTH, Ill. –  The Illinois College women's soccer squad posted its first Midwest Conference victory of the season, stopping Monmouth, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Peacock Memorial Athletic Park.

The victory moved IC to 9-3-3 overall and 1-1-2 in league play while Monmouth dropped to 3-7-2 and 1-2-1.

IC 2 Monmouth 1
The match got off an explosive start offensively as the Lady Blues' Aliza Rodriguez put IC on the board just 6:26 into the contest when she scored off a pass from Haley Sommer.

The Fighting Scots wasted little time evening things up as Monmouth's Jaden Stockton tied the contest less than a minute later.

After the initial offensive fireworks, the teams remained scoreless for the duration of the period.

IC would get the eventual game-winning goal at the 59:59 mark when Sommer blasted home a penalty kick.

Stella Gonzalez opened the match in goal for IC and recorded four saves. Sophia Kriegesmann handled the final 41:08 of the contest, notching a pair of saves.

The Lady Blues' offense was paced by Sommer who, along with her goal and assist, had a match-high five shots. Abbi Renwick added four shots for IC while Olivia Ralston and Rodriguez each had two.

Blue Notes
The victory gave the 2024 Lady Blues the second-highest single-season win total in program history. It now trails only the 2014 team that won 11 times.
