JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Illinois College had three players in double figures and that balance proved to be the difference as it posted a 78-66 win over Monmouth in a Midwest Conference game on Wednesday at Sherman Gymnasium.
The victory improved IC to 18-3 overall and 10-2 in the league. The Fighting Scots dropped to 12-9 and 6-6.
Buzz Ritzel led the Blueboys with 20 points while grabbing eight rebounds and collecting three steals.
Josh Harris pumped in 18 points with five rebounds and a team-high five assists.
Jake Mazrimas chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds while
Nestor Daboin recorded a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Blueboys took their largest lead of the first half at 16 (45-29) when
Jahkeis Tippett drilled a jumper 25 seconds to before intermission. IC led 45-22 at the break.
IC led the entire second half. The Fighting Scots were able to get withing three at 51-48 just seven minutes into the final period but never seriously threatened again.
IC will hit the road for the weekend as it travels to Lawrence for a Saturday contest. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
