JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College men's basketball team got back to its winning ways, posting a 63-51 victory over Knox in a battle of Midwest Conference co-leaders on Wednesday at Sherman Gymnasium.
With the victory, IC improved to 14-2 overall and 6-1 in MWC play. The Prairie Fire, which entered the contest on a seven-game winning streak, dropped to 10-5 and 3-2.
It was a big night for Blueboy
Jake Mazrimas who led the team with 14 points and 12 rebounds. The senior from Lockport, Ill. moved into second place on IC's all-time scoring list and now has 1,521 points in his career. Mazrimas is already the program's all-time leader with 217 career 3pt. field goals.
Josh Harris added 11 points and
Buzz Ritzel chipped in with 10 for the victors.
Nestor Daboin had four blocked shots to key the Blueboy defense.
Knox was led by Sean O'Neil's 12 points while Cole Andrews had 10 rebounds.
The Blueboys led the contest wire-to-wire, growing the first half lead to as much as seven points before taking a 31-27 advantage into intermission. The second stanza was all IC as they pushed the lead to as much as 13 at 47-34 with 12:18 to play. The Prairie Fire would get no closer than seven (57-50) with 1:37 to play before IC closed out the contest, scoring six of the final seven points to claim the victory.
The Blueboys return to action Saturday when they travel to Lake Forest for a 1 p.m. conference contest.
