ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Illinois College Lady Blues soccer team traveled to Augustana College (IL) for a non-conference match Wednesday evening. IC battled the Vikings to a close match but fell short with a final score of 1-2. IC now stands at 3-5-1 overall this season.
In the first 20 minutes of action, Augustana came out very aggressive on offense with four shots. In the 23rd minute, IC's
Olivia Ralston gave the Lady Blues the 1-0 lead with a goal. The Vikings tied the match at 1-1 in the 34th minute on a goal from Carson Kekelik.
Six minutes later, Kekelik was fouled inside the box from IC's goalkeeper
Sophia Kriegesmann. Augstana's Maddie Fletner netted the penalty kick that gave the Vikings the 2-1 advantage. Augie took a 2-1 lead into halftime.
In the opening minute of the second half,
Haley Sommer had a great chance to tie the match but missed just right. The Vikings was able to put together an aggressive offensive front for the remainder of the match to hold IC scoreless and earn the victory.
The Lady Blues will travel to Fontbonne University on Saturday, September 30 at 12:00 PM in St. Louis, Missouri.
