LAKE FOREST, Ill.- The Lady Blues softball team traveled to face Lake Forest this weekend in MWC action. IC defeated the Foresters in both games of the doubleheader to earn the sweep and advance to 11-10-1 overall and 4-0 in the MWC.
GAME 1- Illinois College 5, Lake Forest College 1
Kayla Serpa was the standout at the plate finishing the game going two for three with two RBI.
Julia Drake was exceptional in the circle for the Lady Blues pitching all 7.0 innings with seven strikeouts.
IC built a strong 2-0 lead after a single by
Annie Schimpf brought in a run by
Allison Mortland.
Cheyenne Anderson extended the lead with a two-run homer in the fifth inning to seal the victory for the Lady Blues in game one.
GAME 2- Illinois College 9, Lake Forest College 1
Schimpf played exceptionally in the second game of the day. She finished the contest going three for four at the plate with two runs scored.
Olivia Shimmin got the win in the circle pitching 5.0 innings with three strikeouts.
The Lady Blues caught their stride offensively putting up big numbers to secure a substantial lead. The team stood ahead 9-0 in the bottom of the sixth. This would be enough to earn the win and keep the Lady Blues undefeated in the MWC.
The team will return home to host Greenville University on Monday, 4/10 at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
