JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Lady Blues hosted Lawrence University on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader. IC picked up two victories against the Vikings to earn the sweep and advance to 13-10-1 overall and 6-0 in the MWC.
Game 1- Illinois College 14, Lawrence University 1
The first game was an offensive clinic that featured a nine-run second inning.
Annie Schimpf was the standout for the Lady Blues with three doubles and three RBI.
Kiya Hagene set the tone at the top of the lineup reaching base three out of four plate appearances.
Julia Drake was sensational in the circle going all five innings allowing one run with 10 strikeouts.
The Lady Blues scored one run in the first and exploded for nine runs in the second highlighted by
Calynn Gicante's three-run double with the bases loaded. The Lady Blues went on to score two runs in both the third and the fourth inning to earn a run-rule win.
Game 2- Illinois College 4, Lawrence University 2
IC got on the board first in the second game of the doubleheader. A single by Schimpf brought home Hagene for the sole run in the first. Gicante added a single in the third that plated two runs. Anderson brought another run home on a bases-loaded hit by pitch.
The Vikings scored two runs in the sixth to make it a two-run game.
Julia Drake entered the game in relief to get a five-out save to shut down the Vikings.
The Lady Blues will hit the road on Wednesday, 4/19 against Knox College in a doubleheader at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
