CHICAGO, Ill.- The Illinois College baseball team continued their weekend series against the University of Chicago in a doubleheader on Saturday. The team earned a split falling short in game one 3-10, and earning the win in game two 6-4. This advances the team to 8-16 overall and 4-5 in the MWC.
GAME 1- Illinois College 3, University of Chicago 10
Jon Tate and
Connor Hennemann had an exceptional game in the first half of the doubleheader. They both led the team at the plate going two for four with one RBI.
Branson Shaw got the start at the mound pitching 6.1 innings with seven strikeouts. The Blueboys had the lead 3-2 before heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Maroons exploded offensively putting up seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to claim the win.
GAME 2- Illinois College 6, University of Chicago 4
Hennemann shined at the plate once again for IC going three for five with one run scored and two RBI.
Dylan Eaton got the start at the mound pitching 5.0 innings with six strikeouts.
Aiden Lougeay earned the win pitching 2.1 innings.
The score was tied 4-4 after nine innings of play. The Blueboys took the lead after a base hit by
Peyton Phillis brought in
Walker Smith for the score. A single by
Jaydon Davis brought in Phillis for another security run. The Blueboys defense was able to hold off the Maroons in the bottom of the 10th to claim the win.
The Blueboys will return to action on the road facing Illinois Wesleyan on Tuesday, 4/11 at 6:00 PM.
