BELOIT, Wis.- The Illinois College softball team traveled to face Beloit College on Friday in their MWC opening doubleheader. The Lady Blues picked up two wins to defeat the Buccaneers and advance to 9-10-1 overall and 2-0 in the MWC.
GAME 1- Illinois College 9, Beloit College 0 (5 innings)
The Lady Blues were led by a strong performance from
Julia Drake in the circle pitching the entire 5.0 inning shutout with 11 strikeouts.
Kiya Hagene was the standout at the plate going two for four with two runs scored and one RBI.
IC exploded offensively jumping to a 3-0 lead at the end of the third inning. The Lady Blues carried the momentum into the fifth inning to finish the game early to defeat the Beloit Buccaneers.
GAME 2- Illinois College 12, Beloit College 1 (5 innings)
IC proved to be the better team picking up another dominant win over the Buccaneers to complete the sweep.
Terin Teeter got the start in the circle pitching 1.1 innings with one strikeout.
Olivia Shimmin finished the game pitching 3.2 innings with five strikeouts.
Hagene was the standout at the plate once again going two for three with two runs scored and three RBI.
The Lady Blues will continue their MWC schedule traveling to face Lake Forest College on Saturday, 4/8 at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
