JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Lady Blues hosted Grinnell College in a high-stakes doubleheader on Sunday. Both teams were fighting for their right to be the MWC regular season champions. The Lady Blues split winning game one and falling in game two to claim their share of the MWC title. This advances the team to 23-12-1 overall and 15-1 in the MWC.
The team took the time before the game to honor former Head Coach and IC Hall of Famer Deb Kilby who recently passed away. Her sister Nancy Anderson threw out the honorary first pitch to start the day's doubleheader.
GAME 1- Illinois College 6, Grinnell College 0
Julia Drake continued her dominance over the MWC with a strong performance in the first game of the day. Drake pitched the entire 7.0 innings recording 10 strikeouts in the shutout win.
Annie Schimpf had the hot bat going a perfect three for three on the day with one run scored and two RBI.
Kayla Serpa also went perfect on the day going two for two at the plate with one runs scored and one RBI.
GAME 2- Illinois College 1, Grinnell College 5
The Lady Blues had a tough second game offensively falling to the Pioneers. A single by
Kiya Hagene would bring in
Claudia Adam for the Lady Blues one run in the bottom of the second.
Allison Mortland was the standout going two for three on the day.
Olivia Shimmin suffered the loss in the circle pitching 4.2 innings with two strikeouts.
The Lady Blues will wrap up their regular season traveling to face DePauw University on Saturday, 5/6 at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
