JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys hosted Grinnell College in a MWC doubleheader on Saturday. The team suffered two losses to the Pioneers to start the weekend series.
GAME 1- Illinois College 5, Grinnell College 7
IC was led by a strong performance from
Jon Tate and
Logan Schweigert going two for four at the plate.
Griffin King got the start at the mound pitching 6.0 innings with three strikeouts.
A home run by
Peyton Phillis put the team ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the third. The Blueboys stood ahead 5-4 going into the final inning. Grinnell took the lead and held off the Blueboys offense in the ninth to steal the win in game one.
GAME 2- Illinois College 2, Grinnell College 9
The Pioneers kept their momentum going into the back half of the doubleheader. Grinnell built a substantial lead and was able to hold off the Blueboys for the win.
Tate was the standout again going two for four at the plate with one RBI.
Dylan Eaton suffered the loss at the mound pitching 3.0 innings with three strikeouts.
The team will continue their weekend series with the Pioneers facing Grinnell on Sunday, 4/23 at 12:00 PM.
