Blueboys Split in MWC Doubleheader Against Ripon

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College baseball team hosted Ripon College in a MWC doubleheader on Sunday. IC split earning a win in game one 16-4 and falling short in game two 8-11. This advances the Blueboys to 7-14 overall and 3-3 in the MWC. 

GAME 1- Illinois College 16, Ripon College 4

The first game of the day featured an explosive offensive showing from IC. The game was close with the Blueboys ahead 3-2 in the sixth inning. Jaydon Davis extended the Blueboys lead even more with a three-run homer to make the score 6-2.

IC continued to extend their lead in the eighth inning with home runs by Logan Schweigert and Louie Bartletti to seal the victory. Bartletti finished the game going three for four at the plate with four runs scored and four RBI. 

Branson Shaw earned the win at the mound pitching 5.1 innings with six strikeouts. Andrew Wieneke earned a save holding off the Red Hawks late to secure the win. 

GAME 2- Illinois College 8, Ripon College 11

Ripon got off to an early lead with a three-run homer in the first inning. IC continued to play from behind chipping away at the lead the entire contest. The score was 6-7 in the seventh inning before Ripon extended their lead once again with another homerun to make the score 11-6.

This would prove to be too much to overcome with the Red Hawks earning the win in game two. Bartletti continued to have the hot bat for IC going five for six at the plate with three runs scored and one RBI. 

Dylan Eaton suffered the loss at the mound pitching 1.2 innings

The Blueboys will return to action traveling to face the University of Chicago on Friday, 4/7 at 2:00 PM.
