KISSIMMEE, Fla.- The Illinois College Lady Blues competed in a doubleheader against the United States Coast Guard Academy and the College of Saint Benedict on Thursday. The team suffered two close losses on the day to drop to 3-6 overall.
GAME 1- Illinois College 3, United States Coast Guard Academy 4, 10 innings
The first game of the day featured a showing by
Julia Drake in the circle for the Lady Blues. She pitched 9.0 innings with five strikeouts. The game went back and forth with IC answering the Bears to tie the score at every turn.
After being forced into extra innings the Lady Blues remained tough.
Cheyenne Anderson singled to bring in a run by
Allison Mortland in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 2-2.
Calynn Gicante hit a sacrifice fly to bring in a run by
Brooke Loveall to tie the game again in the ninth 3-3.
The Bears were able to score once more in the tenth and hold off the Lady Blues to claim the win.
GAME 2- Illinois College 4, College of Saint Benedict 5
The second game of the day featured another close contest. Anderson led the team going three for four with one run scored and one run batted in.
Terin Teeter got the start in the circle pitching 4.0 innings with one strikeout.
The Lady Blues tied the game late in the sixth inning after a run by
Kayla Serpa made the score 4-4. Saint Benedict was able to defeat the Lady Blues after a double in the bottom of the seventh brought in the game-winning run.
The team will finish their Florida spring trip tomorrow facing the University of Mount Union at 9:00 AM and York College of Pennsylvania at 11:30 AM ET.
