Lady Blues Softball Splits in Doubleheader Against Saint Joseph's College of Maine

KISSIMMEE, Fla.- The Illinois College Lady Blues softball team split in their doubleheader against Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Monday. The team won their first game in extra innings 3-2 and fell in the second game 1-2. This advances the Lady Blues to 2-4 overall this season. 

GAME 1- Illinois College 3, Saint Joseph's College of Maine 2

The Lady Blues were able to win a thrilling game one against the Monks after going to extra innings. IC scored first after a double by Calynn Gicante brought in a run by Annie Schimpf

Saint Joseph's answered in the fourth inning to tie the game 1-1. This would remain the score as the game went into extra innings.

The Monks were able to score a run in the top of the eighth to put pressure on the Lady Blues. A single by Mackenzy Payne brought in the tying run for IC by Allison Mortland. Brooke Loveall reached home to give the Lady Blues the close win in game one. 

Julia Drake pitched the entire eight innings recording 11 strikeouts. 

GAME 2- Illinois College 1, Saint Joseph's College of Maine 2

The second game of the day proved to be competitive as well. Saint Joseph's jumped to a 2-0 lead after three innings. The Lady Blues were able to get on the board after a single by Grace Braun brought in a run by Gicante. 

The Monks would hold off the IC comeback to claim the win in game two. 

Olivia Shimmin would suffer the loss in the circle pitching 4.0 innings with four strikeouts. 

The Lady Blues will continue their spring trip tomorrow facing Kenyon College at 9:00 AM and Catholic College at 11:30 AM ET.
