Lady Blues Earn the Sweep Against Fontbonne Griffins

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Lady Blues faced Fontbonne University in a doubleheader on Thursday. IC picked up two victories to claim the sweep over the Griffins advancing them to 6-10 overall this year. 

GAME 1- Illinois College 1, Fontbonne University 0

The first game of the day featured a defensive standoff with both teams being held scoreless after six innings.

Julia Drake was the standout for the Lady Blues in the circle earning the shutout victory pitching all 7.0 innings with nine strikeouts. 

Both teams remained scoreless in the bottom of the seventh. A double by Annie Schimpf put IC in a position to score the winning run. A costly error by the Griffins would end the game bringing around the game-winning run for the Lady Blues. 

GAME 2- Illinois College 4, Fontbonne University 3

IC got on the board first in the second game of the doubleheader. A single by Grace Braun brought in a run by Kiya Hagene to put the team ahead 1-0 in the first. A double by Claudia Adam would increase the lead to three bringing in runs by Megan Doolittle and Lucy Snow

Fontbonne rallied to tie the game 3-3 in the sixth to force extra innings. A single by Hagene would bring in the winning run from Adam for the walk-off victory. 

Olivia Shimmin earned the win in the circle pitching 2.0 innings. Terin Teeter started the game pitching 5.0 innings with four strikeouts.

The team will hit the road this weekend facing Eureka College on Saturday, 4/1 at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
