ST. LOUIS, Mo.- The Illinois College Lady Blues traveled to face Washington University in St. Louis in a doubleheader on Wednesday. The team picked up a win in game one and suffered a loss to the Bears in game two. This puts the team at 4-10 overall this season.
GAME 1- Illinois College 5, Washington University in St. Louis 3
The Lady Blues got off to a hot start scoring four runs in the second inning to take an early lead. Wash U would answer with two runs of their own to cut the deficit in half.
A double by
Calynn Gicante would bring in a run by
Brooke Loveall in the top of the fifth to secure the victory.
Loveall led the team going two for four at the plate with two runs scored.
Terin Teeter earned the win pitching 6.0 innings with three strikeouts.
GAME 2- Illinois College 3, Washington University in St. Louis 4
The second game of the day proved to be a close one. The Lady Blues took the lead in the top of the fourth with a score of 3-2. A base hit in the bottom of the fifth would give the lead back to the Bears and ultimately give them the win.
Annie Schimpf and Loveall were both standouts in the second game going two for four at the plate and scoring one run each.
The Lady Blues will return to action on the road facing Carthage College on Saturday, 3/25 at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
