JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys hosted Cornell College in the MWC Championship for a chance to go to the NCAA DIII Tournament on Saturday. The Blueboys were able to defeat the Rams 70-61 to win the MWC Tournament Championship. Illinois College clinches a spot in the NCAA DIII tournament for the second time in program history.
IC was led by
Jake Mazrimas with 24 points and seven rebounds.
Tre Rogers also reached double figures in scoring with 13 points.
Benton Singleton had a huge night on the glass leading the team with 11 rebounds.
Sherman Gymnasium was packed with a sea of blue on Saturday for the championship contest. The Blueboys built a commanding lead in the first half by playing tough defense leading the Rams 41-23 at halftime. Cornell fought back in the second half chipping away at the lead, but could not overcome the deficit. Ritzel and Rogers made key free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
