MONMOUTH, Ill. – Playing its first game as a nationally-ranked team, the Illinois College men's basketball squad showed why it's ranked 25th, cruising to a 71-39 victory over Monmouth at the Huff Athletic Center Tuesday evening.
The victory moved the Blueboys to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the Midwest Conference while the Fighting Scots dropped to 3-5 and 1-2.
Jake Mazrimas, the two-time defending Midwest Conference Performer of the Week, continued his strong play by scoring 16 points and grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds.
Nestor Daboin added 16 points and nine rebounds while
Seth Doss came off the bench to score 10 points with seven rebounds.Â
On the evening, 12 Blueboys scored and 16 saw action in the contest.
IC wasted no time taking command. Mazrimas drilled a three-point field goal just 24 seconds into the game and the Blueboys never looked back, holding the lead from that point on. IC's advantage to as much as 38 (63-25) before the bench was emptied.
IC held Monmouth to just .231 (15-65) shooting from the field while scoring at a .509 (27-53) clip.
The Blueboys return home for the first time since November 18th on Saturday when they welcome Lawrence to Sherman Gymnasium for a Midwest Conference 2contest. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
