Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College men's basketball team used a strong defensive performance to grind out a 53-35 win over Lawrence in a Midwest Conference contest on Saturday at Sherman Gymnasium.
The 25th-ranked Blueboys improved to 9-0 on the season – the best start in school history – including a 4-0 mark in league play. The Vikings dropped to 0-9 and 0-4.
Senior
Nestor Daboin led the defensive effort with a game-high 14 rebounds and seven blocked shots as well as chipping in with six points.
Josh Harris paced the IC offense with 17 points while
Jake Mazrimas had 10 points and seven rebounds for the victors.
IC, which played without starter
Buzz Ritzel due to injury, limited Lawrence to only eight points in the opening half and took a lead it never relinquished just 3:07 into the game on a Harris free throw. The Blueboy advantage grew to as much as 20 points at 35-15 with nearly 12 minutes to play in the contest.
The Blueboys will break for final exams before returning to action on Sunday, December 17th when they travel to Milwaukee to face the Milwaukee School of Engineering for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference tilt. IC is not back in Sherman Gymnasium until January 3rd when Beloit visits for a MWC game at 5:30 p.m.
