RIPON, Wis. – Illinois College used a balanced attack to post a 72-62 Midwest Conference victory over Ripon on Saturday at Weiske Gymnasium.
The Blueboys, off to the best start in school history, improved to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Ripon dropped to 1-7 and 0-1.
IC, which is receiving votes in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, had four players in double figures and the starting five accounted for 64 of the team's 72 points on the day.
Jake Mazrimas led the way by scoring 16 points in addition to grabbing eight rebounds.
Josh Harris added 15 points while
Buzz Ritzel scored 14.
Jahkeis Tippett chipped in with 12. The fifth starter,
Nestor Daboin, scored seven and snared a game-high 15 rebounds for the Blueboys.
Ripon started out the game by running off to an eight-point lead at 10-2, seven minutes into the contest. IC then got settled and outscored the Red Hawks 24-13 over the remainder of the half and took a 26-23 advantage into halftime.
The second half was all IC as the Blueboys' lead grew to as much as 17 points on two occasions.
IC will hit the road once again on Wednesday when it travels to Monmouth College for a 5:30 p.m. Midwest Conference contest.
