GRINNELL, Iowa. - The Illinois College men's soccer team continued Midwest Conference play with a visit to Grinnell College Saturday afternoon. The Blueboys fell to the Pioneers by the final score of 0-1. IC now stands at 7-4-1 and 2-1 in the MWC.
In the opening minutes, IC had four shots led by
Tyler Lunning with two shots. The Blueboys and Pioneers battled back-and-forth as each team had opportunities to score but the score remained 0-0 at halftime.
In the 79 minute, Grinnell was rewarded a free kick on the left wing just outside the 18-yard marker when Oliver Northing netted the free kick that gave the Pioneers the 1-0 lead. In the final minute of action, IC had a late offensive attack when
Tyler Schiltz ripped a shot that went just over the net.
For the match, IC had 10 shots as two of those shots were on goal.
Thomas Menke and
Tyler Lunning led IC with three shots each.
Owen Macias represented IC in goal as he recorded three saves.
The Blueboys will host Monmouth College for a MWC match on Wednesday, October 11 at 4:30 PM.
