JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois College men's soccer continued Midwest Conference play as the team hosted Monmouth College Wednesday evening. The Blueboys earned a draw against the Fighting Scots by the final score of 2-2. IC now stands at 7-4-3 overall and 2-1-1 in the MWC.
In the early minutes, IC had a great opportunity to score when
Tyler Lunning took a shot on goal that went off the cross bar. In the 10th minute, Monmouth struck first on the scoreboard with a goal from Kristofer Ruiz-Camarena. IC evened the match at 1-1 in the 22nd minute on a Lunning goal as that goal was assisted by
Tyler Schiltz. The Blueboys added six more shots in the first half but the score remained tied at 1-1 at the half.
In the 63rd minute, Schiltz delivered a fantastic entry ball near the net when
Albert Nimako headed the ball in the back of the net that gave the Blueboys the 2-1 advantage. IC and Monmouth continued to battle back-and-forth as the match became very physical. With 15 seconds remaining in the match, Monmouth's Owen Murray tied the match at 2-2 with a goal that granted the drawl.
For the match, IC outshot the Fighting Scots 17-7 as nine shots were on goal. Lunning led IC with six shots as four shots were on goal.
The Blueboys will resume conference play on Saturday, October 14 at 8:00 PM hosting Lawrence University.
