ST. LOUIS, Mo.- The Illinois College Blueboys soccer team traveled to face Principia College in their 2022 season opener on Thursday night. The Blueboys suffered a loss to the Panthers with a final of 2-3.
Principia was able to strike first with a goal in the 12th minute to take the lead. IC found an answer with a goal by
Tyler Schiltz to even the score 1-1 heading into the second half.
Both teams seemed evenly matched applying great defensive pressure. The Panthers would find the net in the 59th minute to regain the lead over IC. Another goal by the Panthers would make the score 1-3 in the 74th minute.
Brock Kennell was able to provide hope for IC with a goal late in the game to cut the deficit to one. Unfortunately, it would not be enough as Principia walked away with the win.
Owen Macias represented the Blueboys in goal with 2 saves on the night.
The team will look to bounce back as they host Eureka College in their home opener on Friday, 9/2 at 7:00 PM.
