JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys hosted Beloit College in a single game on Sunday to decide their postseason fate. The Blueboys picked up the win against Beloit with a final of 8-6 to extend their postseason hopes. IC's season depended on the outcome of the MWC matchup between Knox College and Grinnell College. The win by Knox College with a final of 8-6 over the Pioneers advances the Blueboys into the MWC Tournament as the fourth seed.
Illinois College was led by
Bailey Reed and
Griffin King both going three for four at the plate with one run scored and two runs batted in. IC relied on multiple pitchers to secure the victory.
Ben Jarboe was awarded the win pitching 2.0 innings with two strikeouts.
Beloit College jumped ahead early building a 1-6 lead over the Blueboys in the fifth inning.
Tyler Blum provided the momentum swing for IC hitting a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 4-6. A double by
James Marcinkowski would score
Kellen Blum, and a double by Reed would score Marcinkowski to tie the game at 6-6 in the seventh.
King would give the Blueboys their first lead of the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth bringing in a run by
Tyler Blum to give IC the lead 8-6. This would ultimately give IC the victory to advance them into the MWC Tournament.
The Blueboys will face Lawrence University in the first round of the MWC Postseason Tournament on Friday, 5/13.
