APPLETON, Wis.- The Illinois College baseball team traveled to Lawrence University for the Midwest Conference Tournament this weekend. The team suffered two losses to the Lawrence University Vikings and the Ripon College Red Hawks. This wraps up the Blueboys 2022 season as they finish the year with a record of 17-24 overall.
GAME 1- Illinois College 15, Lawrence University 16
The Blueboys found themselves in a shoot-out in the first game of the tournament against the Vikings. IC was led by
Griffin King going four for five at the plate with four runs scored and four runs batted in. King totaled one double and two home runs in an impressive showing.
The Blueboys took their first lead of the day with the score 9-8 after a single by
Case Sparks brought in a run by King in the top of the fifth. Lawrence put together an explosive bottom of the seventh to jump back into the lead 9-12.
IC would answer with a two-run homer by
Bailey Reed to tie the game 12-12. Another home run by
Kellen Blum would make the score 15-12 heading into the final inning.
Lawrence was able to tie the score and pull off the win with a base hit driving in the game winning run.
Ben Jarboe suffered the loss at the mound pitching 2.1 innings with one strikeout.
GAME 2- Illinois College 2, Ripon College 10
The Blueboys were led by
James Marcinkowski in the second game of the day going two for three at the plate with two runs scored. Ripon was able to get their offense going early scoring 10 unanswered runs through the fifth inning.
IC would attempt the comeback with a double by
Peyton Abbott bringing in a run by Marcinkowski in the sixth to give IC their first score of the game. A single by
Cullen McBride brought in another run by Marcinkowski to make the score 2-10 in the eighth.
The lead would prove to be too much to overcome for the Blueboys as they would suffer the loss in the elimination game.
Christian Stawar suffered the loss at the mound pitching 3.0 innings with two strikeouts.
