JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys hosted the Beloit College Buccaneers in their final regular season series of the 2022 season. The team earned a split after picking up a win in game one in extra innings and suffered a loss in game two.
GAME 1- Illinois College 3, Beloit College 2
The first game of the day featured an incredible pitching performance from
Cullen McBride. McBride was pursuing a perfect game through seven innings not allowing a hit or anyone to reach base. The magical run was spoiled with a double by Beloit in the eighth inning to give the team their first hit of the game.
The Blueboys relied on a 2-0 lead for a majority of the game after a triple by
James Marcinkowski and a single by
Bailey Reed. In the top of the ninth, Beloit took advantage of their final chance to tie the game with a two run homer to send the contest into extra innings.
IC would score with a run by Marcinkowski after an error by Beloit's third baseman to claim the win in the 10th inning.
Ben Jarboe was awarded the win at the mound pitching the final inning with one strikeout. McBride finished the game pitching 9.0 innings with 10 strikeouts.
GAME 2- Illinois College 5, Beloit College 9
IC was led by
Peyton Abbott at the plate going two for four with two runs scored and two runs batted in. The Blueboys were able to tie the game 4-4 after a hot start by Beloit in the bottom of the fifth. The Blueboys would take the lead after a single by
Caleb Uselton brought in a run by Abbott.
Beloit answered with two runs of their own in the sixth inning to retake the lead 5-6. Beloit held on to claim the win in game two.
Ben Jarboe suffered the loss at the mound pitching 4.1 innings with two strikeouts.
IC will host Beloit tomorrow 5/8 in a single game at 11:00 AM in hopes of keeping their postseason chances alive.
