GRINNELL, Iowa- The Illinois College Lady Blues traveled to face the Grinnell College Pioneers on Sunday in a MWC doubleheader. The team earned the split to stand at 19-12 overall and 12-3 in the MWC.
GAME 1- Illinois College 7, Grinnell College 8
The first game of the day proved to be a close one. Both teams stood tied after a double by
Emma Newton brought in a run by
Madisyn Webster to make the score 4-4 in the fifth.
The Lady Blues would score three more runs to stand ahead 7-4 heading into the final inning. Some late game heroics by Grinnell led to a walk off sacrifice fly ball to bring in the game winning run.
Sydney Hood suffered the loss in the circle pitching 6.1 innings with eight strikeouts.
GAME 2- Illinois College 11, Grinnell College 7
IC looked to bounce back in the second game of the doubleheader. Grinnell would jump ahead with a four run homer to put the team ahead of the Lady Blues 5-0 in the bottom of the second.
Grace Braun singled to bring in a run by Webster to tie the game in the fourth 5-5. IC would take the lead after a double by
Grace Frost brought in runs by Braun and
Claudia Adam. IC would extend their lead in the final inning to secure the victory in game two.
Julia Drake earned the win in the circle pitching 5.0 innings with 10 strikeouts.
