LAKE FOREST, Ill.- The Illinois College softball team competed in the first day of the MWC Tournament today. The Lady Blues earned two wins to advance to the MWC Championship tomorrow against the winner of Lake Forest College and Grinnell College.
GAME 1- #2 Illinois College 10, #3 Grinnell College 6
IC was led by
Claudia Adam in the first game of the MWC Tournament. Adam went four for four at the plate with three runs scored and three runs batted in.
Julia Drake earned the win in the circle pitching 4.0 innings with five strikeouts.
Both teams were tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the third. IC put up three runs in the third to take the lead 7-4. Grinnell showed some offensive fire power with two home runs in the fourth and sixth innings to cut the lead to two. Adam would seal the win with a home run of her own in the bottom of the sixth to advance the Lady Blues.
GAME 2- #2 Illinois College 6, #1 Lake Forest 1
The second game of the day featured a rematch of last years MWC Championship. The Lady Blues were led by
Madisyn Webster going two for two at the plate with two runs scored.
Sydney Hood earned the win pitching 5.0 innings with 10 strikeouts.
The Lady Blues relied on strong defense and stellar hitting to pick up the win. The team held a 2-0 lead for most of the contest. IC was able to expand their lead in the top of the seventh after a double by
Grace Frost brought in runs by
Emma Newton, Webster, and
Emma Nicholson.
IC would hold on to claim the win and advance to the MWC Championship. The Lady Blues will play against the winner of the 10:00 AM game between Lake Forest and Grinnell. The championship game is scheduled for 12:00 PM with a second championship game at 2:00 PM if necessary.
