MONMOUTH, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys traveled to face Monmouth College on Saturday in a MWC doubleheader. The team earned two wins to advance to 15-20 overall and 10-10 in the MWC.
GAME 1- Illinois College 13, Monmouth College 4
IC was led by
Peyton Abbott at the plate going three for four with three runs scored and three runs batted in.
Cullen McBride earned the win at the mound pitching 7.0 innings with three strikeouts.
The Blueboys took a 3-0 lead after a two run homer by
Tyler Blum in the top of the first. Monmouth would answer with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first.
IC continued to shine offensively pouring on the runs. Abbott had a three run homer in the top of the fourth to put the Blueboys up 8-3. Monmouth was unable to overcome the deficit falling to IC in game one.
GAME 2- Illinois College 6, Monmmouth College 3
The Blueboys continued the momentum into the second game. Monmouth scored first standing ahead 0-2 after the bottom of the fifth inning.
IC took the lead after runs by Abbott,
Tyler Blum, and
Kellen Blum in the top of the seventh 3-2. The team would add three more runs in the eighth and ninth to claim the win in game two.
John Fink would earn the win at the mound pitching 1.1 innings with one strikeout.
Ryan Matheny earned the save coming in as a reliever pitching 2.2 innings with one strikeout.
IC will host Monmouth College on Senior Day this Sunday, 5/1 at 12:00 PM.
