MOUNT VERNON, Iowa- The Illinois College Lady Blues took on the Lawrence University Vikings in a MWC doubleheader on Sunday. The team earned two wins to advance to 18-11 overall and 11-2 in the MWC. This secures IC one of the top four spots in the MWC Tournament.
GAME 1- Illinois College 7, Lawrence University 0
IC jumped to an early lead after a triple by
Emma Newton brought in a run by
Madisyn Webster.
Grace Frost doubled to bring in the run by Newton to put the team ahead 2-0 in the first inning.
Strong hitting was the key for IC. They continued to excel offensively to pull away and claim the win in game one.
Sydney Hood earned the shutout win in the circle pitching 7.0 innings with three strikeouts.
GAME 2- Illinois College 12, Lawrence University 2
Illinois College continued their momentum into the second game of the day.
Madisyn Webster led the team going three for four at the plate with three runs and three runs batted in.
Emma Newton also shined going a perfect three for three hitting with a run and an RBI.
IC got off to a hot start outscoring the Vikings 8-2 in the top of the third inning. The team was able to close out the win to complete the sweep in game two.
Alissa Hodge earned the win pitching 5.0 innings and six strikeouts.
The Lady Blues will travel to face Grinnell College on Monday, 5/1 at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
