GRINNELL, Iowa- The Illinois College Blueboys earned the split against the Grinnell College Pioneers bouncing back from a game one loss to earn the win in game two. This advances the team to 12-20 overall and 7-10 in the MWC.
GAME 1- Illinois College 2, Grinnell College 13
Grinnell struck first with a three run home run in the bottom of the third inning. The Blueboys answered with a double by
Tyler Blum to push in a run by
Peyton Abbott in the top of the fourth.
Case Sparks then batted in Blum to cut the deficit to 2-3.
The Pioneers finished strong to pull away with the victory in the first game of the doubleheader.
Cullen McBride suffered the loss at the mound pitching 5.0 innings with five strikeouts.
GAME 2- Illinois College 15, Grinnell College 1
IC showed resilience bouncing back to claim game two. McBride sparked the Blueboys offense with a home run in the bottom of the fourth. The Blueboys scored two more runs in the fourth, followed by a three run homer in the sixth inning by
Kellen Blum to push the team ahead 6-0.
The Blueboys continued to be explosive offensively with two more home runs by
Cullen McBride and
Tyler Blum to pull away in the second game of the doubleheader.
Griffin King earned the win pitching 5.0 innings and six strikeouts.
The Blueboys will travel to face Knox College on Wednesday, 4/27 at 12:00 PM.
