MOUNT VERNON, Iowa- The Illinois College Lady Blues traveled to face Cornell College in a MWC doubleheader today. The team earned a sweep defeating the Rams in both games to improve to 16-11 overall and 9-2 in the MWC.
GAME 1- Illinois College 3, Cornell College 2
The Lady Blues earned a come from behind victory against the Rams in the first game of the day. The team trailed 1-2 heading into the seventh inning.Â

Emma Newton was able to bring in runs by
Madisyn Webster and
Emma Farley to push the Lady Blues into the lead.
Sydney Hood earned the win in the circle pitching the entire seven innings with one strikeout.Â
GAME 2- Illinois College 5, Cornell College 2
IC was able to carry that momentum over into the second game of the day. Both teams stood tied 3-3 after the fifth inning.Â
Late game heroics by Newton and Farley would bring in the go ahead runs to give IC the victory in game two.
Julia Drake earned the victory pitching for 3.0 innings with two strikeouts.Â
The Lady Blues will travel to face Lawrence University on Sunday, 4/24 at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.Â
