JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys earned a split over conference competitor University of Chicago today winning the first game 15-5 and suffering a loss in game two 10-14. This drops IC to 9-18 overall and 4-8 in the MWC.
GAME 1- Illinois College 15, University of Chicago 5
IC started off hot in the first game of the day. The team took the lead 2-0 after the first inning. Chicago would answer back jumping to a 4-2 lead after the top of the sixth. A single by
Peyton Phillis brought in a run by
Peyton Abbott to give the lead back to IC 5-4.
IC exploded offensively scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth to give them a commanding lead that would ultimately lead to the win.
Cullen McBride was phenomenal at the mound pitching all 8.0 innings only allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts. McBride was also a standout at the plate going four for five scoring four runs with one run batted in.
GAME 2- Illinois College 10, University of Chicago 14
The second game of the day proved to be a close one. Chicago built a substantial lead 3-11 after the top of the seventh inning. The Blueboys were able to battle back after a couple of base hits by Abbott and
Caleb Uselton to bring the lead to just four runs. A home run by McBride would bring in a run by
James Marcinkowski to make the score 9-11 heading into the final inning.
The Maroons were able to hold on to claim the win in game two with a final of 10-14.
Christian Stawar suffered the loss at the mound pitching 3.0 innings with two strikeouts.
The Blueboys will continue conference play hosting Knox College on Tuesday, 4/19 at 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
