Softball Splits in Doubleheader Against Marian University and Hiram College

LEESBURG, Fla.- The Illinois College Lady Blues earned a split on the second day of their spring trip winning over Marian University and suffering a loss to Hiram College. This advances the Lady Blues to 2-3 overall. 

GAME 1- Illinois College 8, Marian University 0

The first game of the day featured and outstanding showing by pitcher Sydney Hood. Hood pitched the entire seven inning shutout earning 11 strikeouts while only allowing six hits. Hood earned the win at the mound to advance to 1-1 overall this year. 

IC went up 2-0 in the top of the fourth to claim the lead. A triple by Cheyenne Anderson brought in runs by Emma Newton, Annie Schimpf, and Madisyn Webster. Claudia Adam was able to single to bring in Anderson to make the score 6-0 in the fifth. IC would add two more runs to secure the win in the first game of the day. 

GAME 2- Illinois College 1, Hiram College 13

The second game of the day proved to be a tough one for the Lady Blues. Hiram got off to a quick start scoring the first three runs to take the lead. Newton was able to single to bring in a run by Adam for IC. The lead proved to be too much for the Lady Blues to overcome as they would suffer the loss. 

Julia Drake recorded the loss in the circle pitching 6.1 innings totaling four strikeouts. 

IC will continue competition tomorrow facing Penn State Berks at 3:00 PM ET and Catholic University at 5:15 PM ET.
