WINTER HAVEN, Fla.- Illinois College opened up their spring trip with a doubleheader against St. Joseph's College. The Blueboys split earning a big win in game one and suffering a close loss in game two.
GAME 1- Illinois College 19, St. Joseph's College 2
The Blueboys got off to a hot start in the first game of the trip. IC scored seven runs in the top of the first to jump to an early lead. The team added another run in the top of the fourth to stand ahead 8-0.
Peyton Abbott hit his first homer of the season bringing in a run by Marcinkowski to put IC ahead 10-1 in the sixth.
Kellen Blum homered as well in the sixth to extend the Blueboys lead once again.
Cullen McBride earned his first win at the mound pitching for 5.0 innings with 11 strikeouts.
GAME 2- Illinois College 4, St. Joseph's College 5
The second game of the day proved to be a close one. IC was able to score first with a single by
Griffin King bringing in a run by
James Marcinkowski. St. Joseph's College went on a tear after that scoring four unanswered runs to take the lead.
The Blueboys tied the game after a single by McBride brought in Marcinkowski to tie the game 4-4. St. Joseph's was able to earn the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh to claim the win in game two.
Andrew Wieneke suffered the loss at the mound for the Blueboys in a tight game.
IC will face University of Northwestern on Monday, 3/7 at 9:15 AM.
