JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys hosted Cornell College in a conference doubleheader on Sunday. The team suffered a loss in game one after a late comeback attempt and picked up a win in game two to advance to 7-11 overall and 2-1 in the MWC.
GAME 1- Illinois College 11, Cornell College 13
The Cornell College Rams stood ahead 1-5 after the top of the fourth inning.
James Marcinkowski was able to spark some life into the Blueboys offense with a homer in the bottom of the sixth to decrease the deficit to 2-5.
Cornell put together a strong top of the eighth building a commanding 13-2 lead. IC was able to rally to bring the lead to just five runs with the score at 8-13. The Blueboys made a strong effort but were unable to complete the comeback falling in game one.
Christian Stawar suffered the loss at the mound pitching 3.1 innings with one strikeout.
GAME 2- Illinois College 13, Cornell College 5
IC got off to a strong start in the second game of the doubleheader. Marcinkowski got the team going with a homer in the bottom of the first bringing in a run by
Peyton Abbott to put the Blueboys ahead 2-1.
The Blueboys would continue to shine offensively jumping ahead 10-3 in the bottom of the fourth. The team would hold onto the lead to defeat the Rams in game two.
Andrew Wieneke would earn the win at the mound pitching 3.0 innings.
IC will continue MWC play traveling to face Ripon College on Saturday, 4/2 at 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
