ST. LOUIS, Mo.- The Illinois College Blueboys traveled to take on the Fontbonne University Griffins on Wednesday. The team walked away with their first win of the season defeating the Griffins with a final of 13-11. This improves the Blueboys to 1-2 overall this season.
James Marcinkowski was a difference maker for the Blueboys going 3-4 at the plate with one homer, four RBI, and two runs.
Peyton Phillis also had a stellar day batting 3-5 with one homer, one RBI, and three runs.Â
IC got off to a hot start with a home run by Phillis in the top of the first. A double by
Caleb Uselton would bring in two more runs to put IC up 3-0. Fontbonne battled back to take the lead heading into the sixth inning with the score at 3-7. Marcinkowski sparked some life into the Blueboys hitting a home run in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to 4-7. After another homer by
Tyler Blum in the seventh, the Blueboys stood ahead 8-7.Â
Griffin King would also go the distance with a homer in the top of the eighth. A triple by Marcinkowski bringing in three runs would seal the deal as the Blueboys came away with the victory. Â
IC will travel to Florida for their spring trip facing Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Sunday, 3/6 at 10:00 AM ET.Â
