JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys hosted Blackburn College in their 2022 home opener. The team earned a split in a close first game falling 1-2 and picking up a big win in game two 13-0. This advances the Blueboys to 5-6 overall this season.
GAME 1- Illinois College 1, Blackburn College 2
The first game of the day featured
Jack McGuire at the mound for the Blueboys. The Beavers jumped to a 2-0 lead after the bottom of the third.
IC battled back in the bottom of the seventh after
Caleb Uselton was able to single to bring in
Tyler Blum to make the score 1-2. The Blueboys were not able to complete the comeback and would suffer the loss in the first game.
McGuire suffered the loss at the mound pitching all 7.0 innings earning eight strikeouts while only allowing one earned run.
GAME 2- Illinois College 13, Blackburn College 0
The Blueboys caught their stride in the second game. The team jumped ahead to a commanding lead early scoring two runs in the first two innings.
James Marcinkowski and
Cullen McBride were able to homer in the bottom of the third to increase the lead to 4-0. IC sealed the win with a homer by
Jon Tate in the bottom of the sixth bringing in runs by
Jaydon Davis and
Jayden Kasai to make the score 13-0.
Kole Lowry earned the win at the mound pitching 2.0 innings with two strikeouts.
IC will look ahead hosting Millikin University on Saturday, 3/19 at 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
