JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Lady Blues softball team began their season hosting the Hanover College Panthers on Sunday at Future Champions Field. IC split the doubleheader falling short in game one 2-4 and bouncing back to earn a win in game two 12-7. This puts the Lady Blues at 1-1 overall this season.
GAME 1- Illinois College 2, Hanover College 4
Hanover was able to strike first taking the lead 1-0 after the top of the first inning. They would extend their lead in the fifth inning with another run to stand ahead 2-0. A single by the Panthers in the top of the sixth would bring in two more runs to increase the deficit to 4-0.
IC would get the bats going in hopes of a comeback in the bottom of the sixth.
Grace Frost doubled to bring in a run by
Emma Newton and
Claudia Adam later singled to bring in the run by Frost to make the score 4-2. IC was not able to complete the comeback and would suffer a loss in the first game.
Sydney Hood would record the loss in the pitching decision after totaling eight strikeouts in the contest.
GAME 2- Illinois College 12, Hanover College 7
The second game of the day fell in IC's favor. The Lady Blues got started early scoring two runs by
Madisyn Webster and
Jada Johnson in the first inning. IC then put together a stellar inning in the bottom of the third. A triple by
Cheyenne Anderson would bring in two runs for the team to add to their lead. IC would stand ahead 9-4 heading into the fourth.
IC scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to seal their first win of the season.
Alissa Hodge recorded the win pitching 3.0 innings and one strikeout.
The Lady Blues will look ahead to their spring trip to Florida where they will play Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Sunday, 3/6 at 3:30 PM.
