JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Lady Blues hosted Ripon College for the team's Loving Leo Cancer Game. IC fell short to the Red Hawks with a final score of 75-78. This drops the team to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the MWC.
The team held multiple fundraising campaigns in support of Leo Koniak who is the 18-month-old son of Stephen and Amy Koniak of Geneva, Illinois. Leo was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma and is currently receiving treatment on his road to recovery. The team held multiple fundraisers with the proceeds going directly to the Koniak family.
The Lady Blues were led by
Lilly Pepper with 18 points and seven rebounds.
Maya Smith followed with 15 points and four assists.
Lakeida Nichols also provided a spark with 12 points, four rebounds, three assists, and five steals.
The first half was extremely tight as the Red Hawks lead at the half by one point. The Red Hawks built a lead as big as 13 points in the second half. The Lady Blues would not go down without a fight.
Maya Smith knocked down a 3-pointer with six seconds remaining to cut the lead to two. Next possession, the Red Hawks were able to make two free throws to ice the game.
The Lady Blues will return to action at home hosting Monmouth College on Wednesday, 12/7 at 5:30 PM.
