JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys hosted the Ripon College Red Hawks this Saturday. The team came away with a thrilling win over Ripon with a final score of 62-61. This advances the team to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the MWC.
IC was led by
Jake Mazrimas with 20 points and nine rebounds. With his point total tonight, Mazrimas recorded his 1,000th point in his career as a Blueboy. Other double-figure scorers included
Buzz Ritzel with 15 and
Josh Harris with 13.
The Blueboys trailed the Red Hawks for the majority of the contest. Ripon grew their lead to 18 points after a pair of made free throws with 3:45 left in the first half. IC began to chip away at the lead and get back into the game.
With under a minute to play, IC was able to find Ritzel under the net for a big time dunk to cut the score to 60-61. IC got the ball back and was able to draw a foul to put Ritzel at the line. The Blueboys would take their first lead of the game on a pair of made free throws by Ritzel to make the score 62-61 with 00:21 seconds remaining in the game. IC was able to hold off the Red Hawks in the final seconds to claim the thrilling win.
The Blueboys will be back in action hosting Monmouth College on Wednesday, 12/7 at 7:30 PM.
