JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College women's volleyball team hosted a tri-match against Knox College and Greenville University on Senior Day. The team earned a sweep over Knox College and suffered a loss to Greenville University to stand at 12-17 overall and 5-3 in the MWC.
GAME 1- Illinois College 3, Knox College 0
The Lady Blues took the time before the first match to recognize their seniors Jacob Hughes, Molly Jo Welgat, Riley Brandenburg, Jen Humbolt, Morgan Burr, and Haley Lewis. The student-athletes were joined by their families and recognized for their dedication to the IC volleyball program.
IC picked up a big win against the Prairie Fire after three sets 25-9, 25-15, 25-17. The team was led by Welgat with 11 kills in the match. Burr was able to set her teammates up for success with 28 assists in the match. Humbolt led the defense with 17 digs.
After winning the first two sets, IC was able to build a lead on the Prairie Fire after a kill by Maya Stovall to make the score 14-12. The team ended the match on a 4-2 scoring run to defeat Knox and complete the sweep.
GAME 2- Illinois College 0, Greenville University, 3
The second match of the day would fall in Greenville's favor after three sets 22-25, 23-25, 22-25. Laura Kaiser was the team's leader offensively with nine kills in the match. Summer Brandis (14) and Morgan Burr (13) both reached double figures in assists. Humbolt led the team with 15 digs.
The team will look ahead to compete in the MWC Tournament on Friday, 11/4 and Saturday, 11/5.
