JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys earned a big win over conference competitor Cornell College on Friday night. The team defeated the Rams with a final score of 28-14. This improves the team to 4-4 overall and 3-4 in the MWC.
Elijah Pollice led the team at quarterback finishing the game going 11-19 with 183 yards passing, two passing touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown. Trevor Smalls was the leading rusher with 81 yards and a long of 51. Collin Brunstein was incredible scoring two touchdowns on two catches with 123 yards receiving.
After a missed field goal by the Rams on their opening drive, IC connected on an 80-yard touchdown reception from Pollice to Brunstein to put the Blueboys ahead early. Brunstein was able to extend the team's lead once again with a 43-yard touchdown reception to make the score 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Cornell was able to get on the board with a touchdown to cut the Blueboys lead in half. IC would answer with a one-yard rush by Bobby Nelson for a touchdown to cap off a six-play, 65-yard drive to make the score 21-7 as the game headed to halftime.
Toward the end of the fourth quarter, Knox College was deep in Blueboys territory threatening to score. An interception by Ryan Kattenbraker at the goalline would give the ball back to the Blueboys and seal the win for IC.
The team will travel to face Grinnell College on Saturday, 11/5 at 1:00 PM.
