IC Football Falls Short to Monmouth College

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys suffered a loss against the Monmouth College Fighting Scots on Saturday with a final of 27-37. The team celebrated over 125 years of Illinois College football tradition in the anniversary event 125+1 hosted by the Illinois College Varsity Club (ICVC).

Illinois College was led by Destin Chance at the helm going 26 for 48 with 354 passing yards and three touchdowns. Chance also led the team in rushing with 117 yards on 24 attempts. KJ Corley recorded his second 100-yard receiving game this season, finishing the contest with 101 yards receiving. Collin Brunstein also had a productive night for IC with 98 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Kyle Lane was the leader on defense with a total of 10 tackles.

Monmouth would get off to and early start building their lead to 16-0 in the first quarter. The Blueboys came fighting back in the second quarter getting on the board with a 32-yard field goal by Konner Schuckman with 13:16 left in the first half. The Blueboys would get the ball back and put together a stellar drive down field capped off with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Chance to Brunstein to make the score 10-16.

The Fighting Scots were able to answer with a scoring drive of their own ending in a six-yard touchdown run by Henderson Fancois. Another field goal by Schuckman would make the score 13-23 heading into the locker room for halftime.

The Blueboys looked to get back in the game on their first drive of the second half. Chance was able to connect with Brunstein for the second time of the day on a 28-yard touchdown pass to bring the Blueboys within three points trailing 20-23. Monmouth College would put together two more scoring drives to extend their lead once again. Chance was able to get in the end zone once more after a six-yard pass to Tre Johnson, but the lead proved to be too much for the Blueboys to overcome as Monmouth walked away with the win.

The Illinois College Blueboys will travel to face Ripon College on Saturday, 10/2 at 1:00 PM.
