JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys hosted Grinnell College in a Saturday doubleheader this weekend. The Blueboys would pick up a win in game one in walk-off fashion with a final of 5-4 and suffer a loss in game two 6-5. This puts the Blueboys at 18-15 overall and 15-6 in the MWC.
The Blueboys would honor their seniors
Cade Hennemann,
Brian Kindt,
Stephon Mitchell,
Kole Lowry,
Levi Parkevich, and
Dart Todd in between games.
Game 1- Illinois College 5, Grinnell College 4
The Pioneers jumped ahead to a 3-1 lead after the top of the fifth.
Bailey Reed would provide a spark for the Blueboys offense with a solo homerun to decrease the deficit.
The Blueboys put up two more runs by
Peyton Abbott and
Griffin King to take the lead 4-3 over the Pioneers heading into the final inning.
Grinnell tied the game in the top of the ninth to put the pressure on the Blueboy's offense. Reed would single to center field bringing in the game winning run by Abbott to defeat the Pioneers with a final of 5-4.
Christian Stawar earned the win at the mound pitching 8.0 innings with four strikeouts.
Game 2- Illinois College 5, Grinnell College 6
The second game of the day would fall in Grinnell's favor. Both teams stood tied 3-3 in the sixth inning.
Reed would single to bring in a run by
Tyler Blum, and
Caleb Uselton would single to bring in Reed to put the Blueboys ahead 5-3.
The Pioneers decreased the deficit after scoring a run to bring the Blueboys lead to within just one score. Jared Booth sealed the win with a two run homer in the top of the ninth to defeat the Blueboys.
IC will travel to take on Grinnell College on Sunday, 5/9 at 2:00 PM and 4:30 PM.
