JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys picked up two big wins at home on Saturday against the Cornell College Rams. The Blueboys now stand at 14-13 overall this season and 11-4 in the MWC.
Game 1- Illinois College 12, Cornell College 11
The Blueboys found themselves in a battle in the first game of the doubleheader. After a run by the Rams in the first inning, IC would get on the board quick to retake the lead with runs by
Peyton Phillis and
Tyler Blum.
The Rams would then start to pull away after a productive eighth inning would make the score 11-3. The Blueboys refused to go down easy and battled back in the bottom of the eighth.
Phillis would homer and bring in
Peyton Abbott to make the score 11-5. A single by
Caleb Uselton would bring in
Tyler Blum to cut the lead once again to 11-6. Another homer from
Cullen McBride would bring in three runs to cut the Cornell lead to just 11-9 heading into the final inning.
Great defense would give the Blueboys a shot at the win in the bottom of the ninth.
James Marcinkowski would hit the ball in play to bring in
Tyler Blum and the game tying run by Phillis.
IC would earn a walk off single by Uselton bringing in
Bailey Reed for the game winning score.
Conner Wilson would pick up the win at the mound for the Blueboys in game one.
Game 2- Illinois College 19, Cornell College 9, 7 innings
The Blueboys were able to bring the same offensive intensity into the second game of the day.
After the end of the top of the second inning the Rams would stand ahead of the Blueboys with a score of 6-3. The Blueboys would explode offensively in the bottom of the second to score 11 runs and take over the game. Abbott, King, McBride, and
Logan Schweigert would all hit home runs in the second to contribute to the offensive run.
Schweigert would hit his second home run of the game bringing in runs by McBride and Uselton in the fourth inning to make the score 14-6.
The Blueboys would go on to hit three more homers coming from
Tyler Blum,
Kellen Blum, and King to earn IC the win.
Brian Kindt would earn the win at the mound pitching three innings earning two strikeouts.
Illinois College will travel to take on the Cornell College Rams in a doubleheader on Sunday, 5/2 at 12:00 PM and 2:30 PM.
