Blueboys Baseball Splits on the Road Against Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa- The IC Blueboys baseball team traveled to face Cornell College in a doubleheader on Sunday. The Blueboys would split the doubleheader earning a win in game one 12-8 and suffering a loss in game two 15-8. This puts the Blueboys at 15-14 overall this season and 12-5 in the MWC. 

Game 1- Illinois College 12, Cornell College 8

IC would rely on a strong offensive showing in game one to secure the win. The Blueboys were down 1-0 to the Rams heading into the fourth inning. Griffin King would homer bringing in a run by James Marcinkowski to take the lead 2-1. 

The Blueboys would go on to score five more runs including a homer by Tyler Blum to jump to a commanding lead. 

Marcinkowski homered in the top of the sixth to put the game out of reach for the Cornell Rams. 

Griffin King earned the win at the mound pitching five innings earning four strikeouts. 

Game 2- Illinois College 8, Cornell College 15

The Rams would jump ahead early in game two. Cornell would put up six runs in the bottom of the second to stand ahead 6-0 over the Blueboys. 

The Blueboys would battle back to tie the game in the top of the sixth after Peyton Abbott was able to reach home on a pass ball to make the score 7-7. 

Cornell would take over from their scoring six runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory. 

The Blueboys will look ahead to host Knox College on Wednesday, 5/5 at 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM at Future Champions Field.
