MONMOUTH, Ill.- The Illinois College baseball team split their doubleheader against Midwest Conference competitor Monmouth College on Friday. The team dropped game one to the Scots 8-3, and came away with the win in game two with a final of 6-5.
Game 1- Illinois College 3, Monmouth College 8
The Blueboys would get on the board first in game one after a single from
Bailey Reed brought in a run by
Peyton Phillis. The Scots would answer right back with three runs in the bottom of the first to take over the lead.
Monmouth would add onto their lead with two more runs in the bottom of the third to make the score 5-1.
James Marcinkowski decreased the deficit with a solo homerun in the top of the fourth inning.
The Scots would pull away adding on three more runs to pick up the win over IC.
Griffin King suffered the loss at the mound earning two strikeouts.
Game 2- Illinois College 6, Monmouth College 5
The second game of the day proved to be a close contest. Illinois College would score first after a single by Marcinkowski brought in a run by
Tyler Blum.
Monmouth would score three runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead 3-1 over the Blueboys. IC would bounce back after a single by King brought in a run by Marcinkowski.
Reed would tie the ball game with a single to the left side to bring in
Kellen Blum to make the score 3-3.
The Blueboys would take the lead in the top of the sixth after
Daniel Burns was walked with the bases loaded to bring in
Tyler Blum.
After a run by the Scots in the seventh, Burns would double in the top of the 8th to bring in Marcinkowski and Reed to take a two run lead.
This would be enough to earn Illinois College the win.
Ben Jarboe would earn the win on the mound and
Ryan Matheny would earn a save.
The Blueboys will compete next on Saturday, 4/17 at home against Grinnell College at 12:00 PM and 2:30 PM.
