Baseball Earns Saturday Sweep Over Grinnell College

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys earned a sweep in todays doubleheader against Grinnell College with final scores of 9-8 and 15-11. This improves the Blueboys to 8-10 overall and 5-1 in the MWC.

Game 1- Illinois College 9, Grinnell College 8

Peyton Phillis led the team offensively with two hits and two runs in the first game of the doubleheader. The Blueboys would get off to an early lead scoring four runs in the bottom of the second to take the early lead. 

IC would add two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 6-0. Grinnell would battle back scoring five runs to bring the game within one run in the top of the sixth. 

A sacrifice fly by Tyler Blum would bring in Phillis for a score, and a double from Caleb Uselton would bring in a score by Bailey Reed to make the score 8-5 at the end of the sixth. 

Reed would single to bring in Phillis for the score in the bottom of the seventh for the winning run in game one. 

Griffin King earned the win at the mound pitching five innings earning five strikeouts. 

Game 2- Illinois College 15, Grinnell College 11

The second game of the day, Grinnell would get off to the hot start. The Pioneers would stand ahead 9-3 in the top of the fourth over the Blueboys. 

IC would battle their way back into the contest scoring one run in the fifth and six runs in the sixth to take a one run lead over Grinnell with the score at 10-9. 

The Blueboys would continue to excel offensively after Tyler Blum hit a two run homer in the bottom of the eighth to make the score 15-9. This would be enough for the Blueboys to earn the win in game two. 

Kole Lowry represented IC at the mound earning the win pitching four innings for the Blueboys. 

The team will travel to face Cornell College on the road Sunday, 4/18 at 2:00 PM and 4:30 PM.
